Can AI build me a website? Here are eight it built, unedited

Yes, AI can build you a website from one prompt. Here are eight versions of the same site, four models on desktop and phone, plus what you still need to do before it goes live.

Can AI build you a website? Yes. Below are eight versions of one website, built by four frontier AI models from the same short brief, each shown on a desktop and on a phone. Nobody edited them. They are not mockups or templates: every one is a working page you can open, click and scroll, made in between 9 and 43 minutes.

Four AI-built sites for the same fictional app. Use the Phone switch to see each one on a small screen, or open the live build.

What exactly did the AI build?

A complete marketing website for a fictional scheduling app called Driftwood: a headline section, customer quotes, features, a pricing table that switches between monthly and yearly, a list of common questions and a footer. Each AI produced it as one file that opens in any browser. All four versions work on a phone, and all four pricing switches change the prices correctly. You can read the exact brief the models received.

Which AI should build your website?

It depends on what you value, and you can see the trade-off directly.

  • You want it to feel like a brand: Claude Opus 5.5 built the richest page, with a live booking calendar in its header, in 43 minutes.
  • You want something calm and elegant: Claude Fable 5.1 built the most editorial page in 28 minutes.
  • You want it fast and cheap: GPT-6.1 Sol built a clean, complete page in 9 minutes for $0.69 of model time at list API prices.
  • GPT-6 Astra built nearly the same page as Sol for five times the token price, so it is the one to skip here.

What will you still need to do?

Three things, none of which need code. First, write your real content, because the AI can only use the facts you give it. Second, put the file online with a static host and connect a domain; many hosts take a single HTML file by drag and drop. Third, connect the forms to a real service, since the sign-up and booking forms here only work inside the page. The U.S. Small Business Administration's guide to marketing your business online is a sensible checklist for what the site should say.

How do you get the same result?

Describe your site the way our brief does: what the business is, which sections you want, the exact prices and facts, and that it must work on a phone. Give that to a coding assistant such as Claude Code or OpenAI's Codex and ask for a single HTML file. Then judge the result the way you would judge a designer's draft, which is easier when you have seen a few. That is what the blind test below is for.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI really build a website for me without coding?

Yes, from a well-written description. Four frontier models each built a complete, working one-page marketing site from a single prompt, with no human edits. You still need to put the file online and connect real forms, which takes some setup but no programming.

How long does it take AI to build a website?

In our test, between 9 and 43 minutes per site, depending on the model. The GPT models finished in about ten minutes; the Claude models took 28 and 43 minutes and added more features.

How much does it cost to have AI build a website?

The model time is cheap. Priced at each vendor's list API rates, our four landing pages cost between $0.69 and $10.88 each to generate. A subscription plan that includes a coding agent, typically around twenty dollars a month, covers it too.

What can't an AI-built website do yet?

Anything that needs a server. The sign-up and booking forms in these builds are demonstrations with no backend, and the AI did not buy a domain, set up hosting or write your real content. Those steps are still yours.
