Is Claude better than ChatGPT? Decide in 60 seconds with a blind test

Is Claude better than ChatGPT? Stop reading opinions and test it: four builds from the same prompt, names hidden, you pick before the reveal. Here is how, and what the builds show.

Is Claude better than ChatGPT? You can answer that for yourself in about a minute, without reading anyone's opinion, including mine. Below are four builds of the same brief: two by Claude models, two by the models behind ChatGPT. Start the blind test, pick the one you would keep, then reveal who made it.

Four landing pages from one prompt. Names hidden, order shuffled. Pick first, reveal second.

Prefer dashboards? The same blind test works on every brief: use the Blind test button on any stage.

How does the blind test work?

It strips out everything except the work. The four builds play in a shuffled order labelled A to D. You choose the one you prefer, then reveal which model built each. Nothing is recorded: your pick stays in your browser, there is no tally and no leaderboard. Run it on two or three briefs, because a model that wins on design can lose on a game.

What do the builds say, brief by brief?

Here is what the first four briefs show when you look past the logos.

  • Landing page: the Claude pages feel like brands, with Opus 5.5 putting a working booking calendar in its hero. The two GPT pages are cleaner and nearly identical to each other.
  • Dashboard: all four computed the same figures from the same data, $155,149.80 in revenue from 2,109 orders, so it comes down to craft: annotations and chart-to-table switches on the Claude side, calmer layouts on the GPT side.
  • Physics: all four simulations run without errors; the differences are in look and feel, so watch them move.
  • 3D shooter: the Claude arenas are more atmospheric; the GPT arenas were finished in a fraction of the time. Claude Opus 5.5 ran into our 150-minute limit.

So, is Claude better than ChatGPT?

For building things from a single prompt, Claude is more thorough and ChatGPT is more efficient. On our first four briefs, the Claude models worked 3 to 11 times longer and, at list API prices, cost $7 to $20 per build against $0.54 to $5.64 for the GPT models. If you only ever get one shot, Claude's first draft is the richer one. If you iterate, ChatGPT gets you to the second draft faster. My own pick for client-facing work is Claude Opus 5.5; for prototypes I would reach for GPT-6.1 Sol.

Should you trust anyone's answer to this question?

Only if it comes with the work. Vendor benchmarks, from Anthropic and OpenAI alike, measure tasks the vendors chose, and each vendor's chart tends to show its own model ahead. Our builds were made with the same prompt and the same limits for every model, and nothing was edited; the methodology shows how. For a longer side-by-side, read Claude vs ChatGPT for coding.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude better than ChatGPT for building things?

On our briefs, Claude's models produced more elaborate and more distinctive builds, and ChatGPT's models produced complete, cleaner builds three to eleven times faster and at a fraction of the cost. Which is better depends on whether you value the richer first draft or the faster, cheaper one.

Why use a blind test to decide?

Because brand loyalty changes what people see. With names hidden and the order shuffled, you judge only the work. Your choice stays in your browser and is never counted or sent anywhere.

Which Claude and which ChatGPT models are in the test?

Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Fable 5.1, run in Claude Code, and GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol, the models behind ChatGPT, run in OpenAI's Codex. All four were at maximum reasoning effort and got one attempt each.

Should I use Claude or ChatGPT?

If you mostly build things and want the most thorough first attempt, Claude. If you want speed, low cost or a broad everyday assistant, ChatGPT. Run the blind test on the brief closest to your work before you pay for either.

Judge the builds yourself.
